Mean Streets
I just couldn't get into this movie. I kept thinking Martin Scorsese...Robert DeNiro...Harvey Keitel...guns and dealing...stylistic and a nice experimental side to the flick...Great music to evoke moods and everything...Titties and a nice ass in one scene. This should be a good gangster or dealer movie about city life and eking a living out on the streets. But for me, it wasn't.
That being said, Robert DeNiro does give one of his best performances in this movie I think. He's Johnny a guy who owes 3000, 2000, maybe more...fuck if I know cause it changes. That's what creates the tension. There is a lot of that but there is an absence of a story. There is an absence of character development I thought. I see all the characters and I notice what is happening but it was all too much for me to take in. Unlike Goodfellas, Casino, or Godfather, you don't get into the characters' heads as much. Scorsese tries. But like I said this film did not work for me like his normally do.
I give this a 5/10.
The style, experimentation in camera techniques, music, and Robert DeNiro are enough to keep the viewer from disliking this movie passionately.
