Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

I enjoyed this movie a lot. The real goods in the flick are not delivered until 45 minutes into it. That doesn't mean the first 45 suck. I just think the setup to what becomes a "comic film noir" masterpiece is slow and just not that entertaining.

Robert Downey Jr. does this narration shit that I was not a big fan of. I wanted to just watch the movie without interruption but he kept coming in with narration. Narration is possible if it complements the movie. But in this case, I found the narration to take away and slow down the development of characters and plot in the film. Also, scenes would be paused and film would be reshuffled, etc. and I just didn't like it.

Val Kilmer is very good. Gay Perry may just be one of his best film roles ever in his career.

The actress who plays Harmony is also just as good as Val Kilmer. Add to the fact that she is gorgeous, beautiful, and great to look at and you get a nice character in this film. She makes the romantic scenes less drawn out by adding wit to the sequences where she and Robert Downey Jr.'s character are working out their relationship with each other.

This flick has romance in it but what you remember most is the comic noir after. The wit in the mystery action that takes place throughout the movie. The finger adds a nice twist to the story. The fact that Harry (Robert's character) isn't a detective makes the story funny and entertaining.

I give this an 8/10.

Aside from the narration, I think this was one of the best movies to be done in 2005. Right up there with Munich, Match Point, Crash, and King Kong.
